Testimonials from The Nut House

Carolina Wren

The Nut House is a special place. It is the perfect crossroads between a small urban landscape and a wildlife habitat preserve. While small, when inside The Nut House you are transported somewhere different entirely. This place is quiet, cool, relaxing and filled with the constant too and frow of the South's best songbirds. You can expect to have many close encounters with numerous species, spanning everything from finches and jays and sparrows, to wrens and warblers. The only thing that makes it better is the expert photography tips from Carl, as well as the great friendship he provides to all who sit inside The Nut House. Carl has created an ideal backdrop to allow photographers to capture high quality images in a small natural area complete with a diverse group of perches, a beautiful water feature, and an abundance of food to draw species in close. If you are looking for a great experience, no matter your skill level with the camera, then go join Carl for a weekend in The Nut House.

The Nut House is a special place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and appreciate what nature has to offer through the lens of your camera. Carl has designed a beautiful backyard bird landscape that is welcoming to an abundance of bird species, amongst other visitors. Our time spent in The Nut House was very informative, practical, and enjoyable. To learn alongside Carl in this setting is truly an honor for any aspiring photographer. Carl's energy and enthusiasm is infectious, especially as you start to appreciate nature through the eyes of a professional photographer and I cannot recommend this experience enough.

Carl Ackerman’s Nut House has given me the opportunity to get some of the best bird images I have ever taken. I have a set up in my own back yard, but Carl’s Nut house provides a much closer view of a wide variety of birds. Carl has worked many years to attract birds to his habitat. At times, you don’t know which bird to shoot because there are so many birds on so many different perches. There is also a water feature that attracts birds. It is exciting to get a picture of a bird in the water. Carl has helped me get quicker with focus and being ready for that fleeting moment. Carl has also helped me remain calm and wait for the moment the birds turns into the light or waiting on the head crest to be upright. Carl’s habitat makes it so much easier to learn the behavior of birds and thereby helps you decide what you want in your image. I wish that I could live at the Nut House and take pictures all day. Thank you, Carl!
